OC Beauty | Bright Lips for Women of Color

By: Nita J | Makeup Artist

So we already know that bright, bold lips colors are all the rave for this season. For women of color, this may or may not be a hard trend to go along with.

There are a few factors that determine what shade of bright lip colors a woman of color can wear:

- Vibrancy of color used

- Your skin tone

-Confidence

Now for those who love to experiment with color, go ahead and dive right in with this trend! For others who may need a little help, read on.

Choose your lip color. A shade in the pink family is always safe, but also look to shades of oranges, fuchsias, and purples.

You want the focus on your face to be that bright lip color. Tone down the eyes with a neutral color to keep the eye area bright and beautiful. For a little pizazz, choose an eye color with a little shimmer. Check out this photo as a reference.

Once you choose your color, try it on and see how you feel about it. If the color is just too bright and vibrant for you, you can tone it down a bit using a brown lip pencil like NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil in “Soft Brown”

Check out these lip colors!  Lipsticks will give you the most color payoff and vibrancy when choosing a bright lip color. If you are not a lipstick wearer, dab a little of the lipstick onto the lips, just enough for the lips to pick up the color, then apply your favorite lip gloss and blend.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Wild Orchid”

Maybelline COLORsensational Lip Color in “Coral Crush”

MAC Lipstick in “Up the Amp”
